Book Blogger Hop (36) & Follow Friday (28)

It's Friday so it means it's time for the Book Blogger Hop and Follow Friday!

Book Blogger Hop

First off, the Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Jennifer of Crazy-for-Books. It is a way for all the book bloggers out there to get together and find out about each other's blogs. I've found a lot of great blogs and bloggers through this hop and it's always fun to take part in each week.

The Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee's View each week. It works a lot like the Book Blogger Hop except that it's only on Fridays. I haven't been taking part in this hop as long but I've found a lot of great new blogs through this one too.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?

Sadly yes. Unless I know about a book ahead of time, what's going to draw me in when I see it on the shelf at the bookstore is the cover. I am a lot more likely to pick up a book with a pretty cover than one which isn't so pretty. Sure I may be missing out on some great books, but it's just so hard not too judge based on the cover.

That's it for this week!

Enjoy your weekends!

  2. I think that one of the best things for me about book blogging is that I stumble across some great books with less-than-amazing covers by reading reviews from other people who gave something a chance and ended up loving it! I know this happened when I read Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi-- the cover isn't very exciting but I couldn't put the book down!

Nice meeting you, your blog design is really pretty! This is my first Follow Me Friday so I am meeting a lot of book bloggers! I just started my own book blog a couple weeks ago, feel free to stop by sometime and let me know if you like it :)

    Happy reading!!

  4. Hopping through. I agree that covers are important if you don't know anything else about a book.

  5. Yes, I surely do judge a book by the cover. Not always but more often then not. I'm known for not reading synopsis so if your cover doesn't show me what I want to know or if someone doesn't recommend it... chances are I'm reading someone else's book.

Please do stop by for a crumpet, find out about a new MeMe & to check out my newest giveaway :)

  8. Old follower. I agree. Everyone does it to some extent. I'm drawn to pretty or interesting covers as well. However, I don't choose to read a book just by the cover alone.

  13. Hi Emilie! Old follower here.

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
    Happy Follow Friday!!!

  16. I'm always drawn to pretty covers, but learned the hard way to never buy a book just because of the cover! I'm already a follower! My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews

  17. I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net

  18. I always judge a book by it's cover! I can't help it; I'm superficial like that, haha :) But a book is a book no matter what! Have a happy weekend!

  19. Covers are most important to me when I'm browsing in person and can't see reviews or ratings - I'll pick up a nice cover and read a blurb but probably not pick an ugly cover. Online it's easy to ignore covers and just look at ratings/reviews.
